First Date

I wrote this for my now ex-boyfriend Rob.

The first time we met,
Properly that is,
I never would have bet,
We'd be together for this long

I finally reached you,
You were sat on a bench,
You had your back to me,
I felt my heart stop, clench

On the way to my house,
We saw some girls we knew,
But it didn't matter babe,
There were only a few

You kept your distance,
As we walked,
But i knew you still liked me,
From the way that you talked

I was still technically taken,
But it didn't matter,
I knew I liked you better,
But by the attention I was flattered

At first it was awkward,
But then on my bed we lay,
I led in your arms,
And any doubt was washed away

On the mattress we lay,
For an hour or so,
Nothing did we say,
But I think our love did grow

I'd look up at you,
You'd look down at me,
We'd smile at each other,
Then set our gazes free

I leaned up towards you,
You leaned down to me,
Our lips touched gently,
Our love was finally free

You smiled when we broke apart,
I nestled into your arms,
Knowing that with you,
I wouldn't come to any harm

Then the time came,
For you to leave,
The love I felt for you,
I couldn't believe

A hug and a kiss,
With a soft "Goodnight",
You text me two minutes later,
To say that me, you missed

Its been nearly four months now,
And we're still going strong,
I don't think anyone, even us,
Thought we'd last this long
