The past is behind

by kristen   Jul 10, 2005

Her Daddy left her
As a small child
As her teenage years come
She's becoming more wild.

She's looking for love
In all the wrong places
Abuse and violence
On her face you'll see the traces

She thinks she's done something wrong
When he gets mad
She only blames herself
Doesn't understand his rules aren't iron clad

Laying in the hospital bed
Broken bones-spoken spirit
People tell her he's wrong
But she doesn't want to hear it

Laughing and Playing
That's what they use to do
Screaming and Yelling
Now she's playing the fool.

He yells when she says "I love you"
And throws her toward the window
He looks at what he's done
Watches her fall eight stories below

She was a good girl
She didn't mean to do him harm
Now he's in prison
Tattooing her name on his arm

Maybe he really loved her
Maybe she wasn't so blind
But no one will ever know
Because the past is behind.

Maybe if Daddy had stuck around
And told her she deserved better
Maybe she would have believed in herself
She wouldn't be in an underground cellar

Maybe Daddy really loved her
Maybe she wasn't so blind
But no one will ever know
Because the past is behind.
