Painful Joy

by David   Jul 12, 2005

I love you…
God, how I long to say the words
But the sound stops halfway
Gives up and crawls back into the pit of my stomach
How can loving you hurt so much
So good
So completely
That time freezes when you’re around
My heart squeals with delight
My brain tingles with excitement
I drop the weight of the world
To be with you for one second
Such bittersweet kisses
Softer than any feather
Lighter than air
The lovely pain of it all
Goodbyes-long and uncertain
Knowing you’ll be by my side
Always
But it’s hard to deal
Cause the doubts wait for me at night
Telling me it’s too good to be true
Why does the truth hurt
For once let it lift me up
Send me flying across cotton candy clouds
Let it comfort me
Tuck me in for endless dreams
Your eyes talk too much
The chatter pains my ears
Recite stories, confide secrets
Whisper feelings
Can what you say be true
Please let it be
Cause
I think I love you
