Dark Dream

I sit in my history class
Can hardly keep my eyes open
Every time I close my eyes, I see you
And my heart which it broken

That night I remember like yesterday
Burned in my head forever
Like a good dream gone bad
A night I don’t want to remember

It was a clam clear night
The dance was going to be great
Nothing could go wrong I said
But this night I was going to hate

I put on my tux and tie
Got the tickets and headed to my car
Turned the ignition and blared the radio
Her house was not very far

Her parents opened the door
Her dad hollered up the stairs
There was silence, then she called
“I will be right there”

She came down the stairs, I muttered “wow”
She was wearing a black and white dress
Her blonde hair was up in a bun
She looked Amazing I must confess

We waited for the rest of us
A group of her friends
Then the parents too pictures
It seemed it would never end

Ten minutes later, still taking pictures
It was going to be a great feat
The parents didn’t want to stop until
I told them we had to go eat

We had reservations at O’Charley’s
We sat down and ordered out food
Shared stories and lots of laughs
Everyone was in a great mood

We finally got to the dance
The decorations were well done
we dances and talked the whole night
It was a ton of fun

The DJ called the last dance
I held her, my date, very close
I whispered in her ear
What I wanted the most

I told her I had a great time
And asked “would you go out with me?”
There I had scratched the scratch
I had let the “itch” free

What she said next I didn’t expect
She said we were moving too fast
We danced in the silence
Until the song ended at last

It hit me at the end of the song
It felt like a huge punch
My stomach took a hit too
It wanted to regurgitate my lunch

The scene started to fade away
I heard someone yell “Michael”
I was back in my history class
“You have detention for a while”

I am waiting for the day
When I can forget the great, horrible night
When someone else has my heart
And when I can soar, and take flight
