Dancing Under the Moonlight

by Danielle   Jul 12, 2005

Take a bow and hold out your hand
Whisper a secret in my ear
And tell me that this dream
Isn't another fantasy unclear

The black tuxedo you wear is made of silk
Your deep blue eyes start to hypnotize me
While you look at me with no regrets
I’m filled with uncertainty

But squeeze my hands and look at me
Straight into my eyes
Show me everything you've seen
I don’t think it will be a surprise

Gently walk me out onto the pier
And listen to the music from the local bar
Take my hand as we step onto the gazebo
To admire the ocean and its twinkling stars

Hold me close this time and again
Place your hand on the small of my back
And dance with me under this moonlight
So the night won't blanket the sand so black

Wrap your arms around me tight
Spin me and twist me out
Pull me back in towards you
And slowly turn me about

I lift my black gown to see that my footprints
On the gazebo leave a trail of history
My thoughts of hesitation disappear
And I’m left with an entrancing melody

Dip me under and pull me back up
You can feel the rhythm now
A slow beat with harmonizing violins
A quiet piano in the background if your ears allow

You sway me back and forth
Into a synchronizing melody
I close my eyes and lean on you
As you captivate my memory

The music slows a little
And you draw me closer to your chest
My heart pounds with anticipation
As you go in for the kiss

We hold for a moment and release
And the music fades into the distance
You brush my hair back
As I thank you for the dance

Then you let loose my hand from your gentle grasp
And walked back alone the way we came
To this day I still walk the pier in search of you
If only I knew your name
