I have loved you for a thousand years

by erely   Jul 13, 2005

I have loved you for a thousand years
You have watched me cry millions of tears
And still in the shadows you stay
And time after time I walk away

One night has stayed with me all my life
The night our two souls united
Magic was there exciting and pure
It was Easter of that I am sure

And every twenty years or so
You awaken my heart with a love that flows
Excited like a child I soon find myself
Thinking my love has been taken down from the shelf

Ah! The circumstances are always there
The hurt of another that I couldn't bare
Or this time your married and have a family
Neither of us available to love an be free

One day my love our Destiny will be
Where we will love and laugh also free
I will know you and you will know me
And we will laugh at all the History

Until that time comes I can't be whole-There's always a part missing
from my soul
And to this end I know you feel the same.
Until we declare it we can only be friends

Maybe I must die another death
Before the stars align on our love
Or maybe you just have to say
Come my love lets live this day
I have loved you for a thousand years you have watched me cry millions of tears

This poem breaks my heart. It is just too close to my own love and life. For once I'm at a loss for words.Technically it has an excellent rhyme scheme and flows very nicely.Emotionally, it cuts me straight to the core.Such a sad, beautiful piece.
