I wanted to tell you

by Samzy   Jul 14, 2005

On 1945, I wanted to tell you something today…this first day of school
But I guess it slipped my mind

I wrote it down on paper, but I think I lost it.
I was going to tell you on the phone, but you had to go.

It will only take a second but you couldn’t wait, tell me tomorrow you say.
Tomorrow came and went and you still don’t know.
Maybe I can tell you, at the next boat show…

I walk up and say can I have a moment of your time, but you walk away.
Passing by your house, thought I might drop by,
But it’s dark and empty and I can’t imagine why.

I guess I will go home maybe try your cell
When I get home I fall asleep, wake up, and decide to watch t.v
The news was on talking about a death
A picture in the left of a dark and empty house…he was the victim of a theft
Beaten, robbed, shot in the head

This was the man I wanted to tell but now its just to late
It has slipped my mind again of what I was to say
Then I find a paper…beaten, wrinkled, and aged

Dating back 50 years ago from when I was only 10
In sloppy writing the letter said, Dear Tim, I love you

Quickly I pick up the phone and dial fast as I can
Your number has been disconnected, the operator said
Walking past the cemetery a new headstone was placed
And on it said: in memory of Tim, 1945-2005 shot in the head Oct.16th

One October morning a little girl walking to school saw a new gravestone
Right next to Tim, said R.I.P unknown name died Oct.17th of heart failure
And on the ground right below was an old paper wrinkled and old, that said, “Dear Tim, I love you”
