The Last Song

by Stef   Jul 14, 2005

This is the last song I'll ever write about you, your very last melody
The last time I'll ever let you know how badly that you hurt me
This is the last time that you'll hear about all you've done in rhyme
But just so you know, this is the last time, the last time.

I might have said forever, but I also might have so kindly lied
I'm not the kind of girl to wait when I have been denied
Ya, I know that I'm a sucker, and I know I should've known
But I thought you were different; shame on me for thinking so.

I tried once more for you with a heart beyond sick of trying
But you oh so kindly brushed me off, a master at your lying
The words you said weren't true, but just like you knew I would
I fell for them, but that's okay, because I'm over you for good.

This is the last song I'll ever write about you, your very last melody
The last time I'll ever let you know how badly that you hurt me
This is that last time you'll hear about all you've done in rhyme
But just so you know, this is the last time, the last time.

So I'll throw away the roses and all the pre-written letters
And I'll sadly part with all your gifts, but I know it's for the better
And with one swift sweep of my hand I'll quickly throw away
Every single song I've written for you up till this very day.

I know I said I needed you, but as I remember ever so clear
You said it as well before you decided to cunningly disappear
But now I can smile even when the flower says "he loves me not"
Besides, it'll be easier when we've both finally forgot.

This is the last song I'll ever write about you, your very last melody
The last time I'll ever let you know how badly that you hurt me
This is the last time that you'll hear about all you've done in rhyme
But just so you know, this is the last time, the last time.

This is your very last verse; these are your very last notes
You were my disease, and now this song is my antidote
And if you whisper "I love you" as the closing chords begin to chime
I can swear that I won't fall for it, and it'll be the first time.

This is the last song I'll ever write about you, your very last melody
The last time you'll ever know how badly that you hurt me
The last time I'll ever pour my heart out to you in rhyme
But that doesn't mean I don't love you...because I will
For all time.
