Daddy's Girl

A girl I once knew,
She lived the life everybody desires.
She was always happy never did you see her cry,
She was good at school and surrounded by a loving, caring family.
The source to her happiness she had found,
Was her hero.
She looked up to him in every way,
He was somebody she admired and wasn't afraid to run to him.
She followed him everywhere he did go,
And they would go out on his boat once in a while.
One night he went out told her not to follow,
She waited anxiously by the front door for his return.
Morning came but her daddy had not come back home.
She searched the streets, tears running down her face for her hero had now gone.
Arriving home later that day,
She found her world come crashing down.
In to her room she went,
As she laid her head down to cry she found a letter.

"Dearest Daughter,
Please do not cry for me, for I am just fine.
I had to go away for a while, I won't see you again but when you come to heaven I'll be waiting just there.
For now, enjoy the life you lead, do not be lead astray by others, always try your best thats all I can ever ask.
Remain strong and you shall fly. Always follow your heart and I know you'll get there one day.
You shall always be a daddy's girl."

She found a parcel next to it and opened it in wonder,
Inside there was a picture of her and her father together in a frame.
She began to cry wanting to know why he had gone away,
He was her hero, her best friend.
But she followed her daddy's advice,
And always followed her heart.
She fulfilled all her dreams,
Started a family with a loving man and together they raised their young.
She took her children to see her daddy's grave,
And went on her own when her life began to get too hard.
Remembering that special letter,
She began to cry.
Oh, how she missed him so.
He never got to see her grow in to a woman,
He never did walk her down the aisle or hold her first child.
She wiped her eyes looked at his grave and smiled.
"Even though I miss you so, I know I'll always be a daddy's girl."
