Sometimes

by Catherine   Jul 17, 2005

I ask myself,
"What do you feel?"
And sometimes it shocks me
that I'm numb.

Sometimes I can stare into the dark and not realize that
my eyes are open,
and I think I'm asleep.

Do you ever watch the sky?
Do you see the swirling clouds?
Are you mystified by the stars?
Do the many shapes of the moon captivate you?

Have you looked into someone's eyes,
and seen your face looking back?
Do you see each dimension of color in those blue eyes?
Do you see the depth of soft brown?

Can you lay in the grass, and stare into the sun?
Do you smell the sweet greeness?
Can you taste dirt in your mouth?
Do you listen to the woodpecker?

Do you hang yourself over the edge of a cliff?
Can you make a split decision?

Do you remember what it feels like to hug your mother?
when she picks you up from preschool
Can you feel your tiny precious hand in hers...

Do you remember?

Do fireflies still make you wanna dance?

Do you freeze yourself when you can radiate with boldness?

Sometimes I feel like I'm floating in space.
Sometimes I can't sleep at night;
I toss and turn, and tangle my legs in the sheets.

Sometimes I make up wild stories in my head, and I become something else;
I take a new form,
my crazy metamorphosis into
another creature of another time.

Sometimes the sun stays behind the coulds all day...
sometimes it rains, and the sun stays out anyway.

Some days go by, and I'm numb.
Some days go by, and I feel like I'm bleeding cool red paint,
that everyone sees.

Sometimes, I'm in love with the world,
sometimes I hide inside myself, and I'm so ugly.

Somtimes, I write,
and sometimes...

the page is just

blank.
