My Imaginary

by Emma Carnage   Jul 18, 2005

These waters run deeper
Than any other I see
This river of blood
Is the center of me

The banks of the river
Are scabbed and scarred
They’re not made of mud
But rather flesh that’s been charred

Growing alongside the Blood River
Are trees with an odd leaf
These leaves are really tears
That had been cried out in grief

Around the river is a great field
With a sinister weed
Shaped like needles and razors
One wrong step and it will cause you to bleed

During the day you’ll see not one animal
But at night the skies fill with bats
And in the grasses you can see
The glowing eyes of the rats

Flowers are scarce in this part of my mind
The closest I saw caused me to wince
It was five tongues surrounding an eye
So I have stopped searching ever since

The sky is filled with black ash
Although there’s no fire in this place
This ash blocks out the sun
As if it were a disgrace

This land of my own
This land full of fear
When I close my eyes
This land does appear

I sleep here each night
And when I wake up each day
I open my eyes
And yet find no sun’s ray

It no longer scares me
This place is my room
And I just know eventually
It will also be my tomb
