Believe..From A Farther, To His Daughter

by Chantelle   Jul 18, 2005

**It's not as long as it looks, Please Please read!** And the ending paragraph just explains the poems meaning and why it was written.

I went to see a preacher
To teach me how to pray
He looked at me and smiled
Then that preacher spoke to me
He said
If you want to tell him something
You don't have to fold your hands
Say it with your heart
Your soul
And believe it
And I'd say amen

I've said a prayer for the sinners
I've said a prayer for the sins
I've said a prayer for the losers
And a prayer for those who win

I've said prayers
Said them loudly
Or as soft as I need
I've said a prayer for my daughter
And a prayer for me

I called upon the father
On a day of such great pain
I said
I'll die if I don't start to live again

I work each day like clockwork
Just trying to make ends meet
I could kick this bad worlds butt
If I could just get on my feet

I've said a prayer for the dying
A prayer for the truth
A prayer for the innocence
I lost I my youth
I've said them loudly
Or as soft as I need
I've said a prayer for my blessings
And a prayer for my greed

I don't claim to be a wise man
A poet
Or a saint
I'm just another man
Searching for a better way

My heart beats loud as thunder
For the things that I believe
Sometimes I want to run for cover
Sometimes I want to scream

I'll say a prayer for my promises
A prayer for my lies
I'll say a prayer for my Chantelle
And the tears shes cried

I'll say a prayer
I'll say it loudly
Or as soft as I need
Cause as long as my heart keeps praying
I've got a reason to believe.

* I am his daughter, Chantelle, and the other day my father, Mark, came knocking at the door to my (moms) house. His eyes were swollen and red, like he'd been crying for hours. When I asked him what was wrong he just shook his head and told me he needed to tell me something. We sat on my front porch bench and he read his poem to me. By the time he finished we were both crying. I love my father more than anything and I know that times for him right now are really hard. Trying to live on very little money and sleeping on the floor of his friends apartment. He would love more than anything to be able to help support me and raise me, but he can't afford it. He is ALWAYS there for me when I need a shoulder to cry on, someone to talk to that won't judge me, or just a friend or father. In good times or bad he's here as I am for him. I knew I had to post his poem up here the moment after I read it, because with him being so lonely right now, I just want to show him how much people care and a couple of people to listen to a very wise man who has taught me everything I know! I love you dad with all my heart! I will always be your little girl!
