Dark Heart

by Bryan Berry   Jul 20, 2005

After all these years you would think it would all be gone
But it's still there
Boiling inside you
The temperature is rising

All of those insults and curses
You thought they just bounced off
Of course not
They bled through your skin
And reside in your tainted heart
And over the course of this time
Your heart has faded to a pitch black

You wonder what love could have been like
You wonder what happiness could have been
You wonder how a smile could have looked on you
It all seems to have bled away

Now ask yourself
Can I clean this darkened heart?
Can I undo the hatred and anger brought on by so many?
Can I destroy this demon that has grown inside of me?
This horrible being
That wants to kill, maim, and destroy
That side of me that wants to do to them what it did to me
Kill everything inside
