Jason Just Adored You

I remember the night we met
When we became so much more
When every conversation had
Left us laughing on the floor

I remember many video games
And Adam Sandler comedies
The closest thing to family I had
Cracking up right next to me

But I don't know why he changed
How his soul just stopped and fell
His voice broke and his eyes dulled
As he said, "I'm bound for hell"

I remember the very last time
That his voice broke down to me
"The choice was never yours but mine
There's no one who can stop me"

I still can't believe the words
From the phone line the next day
"He's gone and it was suicide
He slit his wrists with blades."

I cried and wondered what he had thought
As the last of life slipped by
Did he think of the good or bad?
Did he really have to die?

He couldn't have known in the least
Just how much he would be missed
He was a friend, cousin, son, brother
And even more a fiance and a father

And on the last day I saw his face
Mourning his life since God hadn't stopped him
Everyone shed so many shattered tears
Upon his wooden silk-lined coffin

We watched as they lowered him
Death so young was certainly so wrong
As his little three-year-old Kayla
Tried so hard just to be strong

I talked to his only brother Todd
And we spoke of found memories
He said, "Jason just adored you"
As I cried too hard to breathe

Jason shouldn't be dead and gone
He was only twenty years old
And now all we have left of him
Is a crypt and stories told
