The lonely corridors of an aged mind...

by Strange Angel   Jul 23, 2005

The lonely corridors of my mind,
Lie bitter, empty, still,
Decaying grandeur hides, forgotten,
Due to the weakness of my will.

My footsteps leave forgotten marks,
On the creaking, dusty floors,
My heart grows heavier each time I see,
What lies beyond the doors.

Uniforms of times gone by,
Places I’ll never see again,
My life was long and lonely,
Now it’s coming to an end.

Heels click on old stone floors,
From soft and friendly shoes,
But the sounds echo in my lonesome halls,
And leave me black and blue.

Once again I’m on my own,
In this ancient, threatening place,
Out of all my friends, companions,
I am last to finish the race.

But now the finishing posts are clear,
The blinding beacons of light,
Soon I’ll sever that fragile ribbon,
And conclude my life-long fight.
