The trees that surround your vision are dead
The leaves have not fallen, nor will they ever
They will just sit on an open coffin
Turning to black and crumple when touched
There\'s mud swallowing your feet
Suffocating your hope of leaving
All while drowning that physical appearance you came to love
A stench hits you so strong
So putrid
Steaming with anxiety that only breaks you down
You would rather not breathe at all
You stare at the skies for forgiveness
But only dirty gray clouds sit there
Offering no invitation, and certainly no sanctuary to retreat to
Snakes are mocking your broken life with hisses of pure hatred
So close you can feel their tongues in the air only inches from your back
Alligators sit in the thick waters around you
Sensing your fear
Only waiting to taste the loneliness that your mind secretes
You want to give up
Then you remember...
A crisp spring wind that carries the scent of strawberries and innocence
the blue skies that stretch to the stars and your dreams
Open fields with fireflies to catch, and honeysuckle to taste
you recall...
Running barefoot in the grass
each blade rising between your toes
you have forgotten...
That you have been loved
that you are always loved
