Mermaid Of The Sea

by Alayna   Jul 26, 2005

The mermaid's tears got lost in the sea
They fell from her eyes dispersed and free
They trickled down her delicate cheek
The sea creatures came, they wanted a peek
Ashamed of herself, she turned her face
"Go away!” she cried. "I'm such a disgrace"
They all wondered why the queen of the sea
Tried to avoid them, tried to flee
She screamed, "Go away" She yelled "I'm okay"
They then swarmed her without delay
"Why, queen of all that is stunning,
Why must you insist on running?"
She turned her head slightly to the side
Wiping the tears she had just cried
Her voice spoke out into the night
"Can't you see this hideous sight?"
Their expressions proved to be confused
With the words she had just used
"We do not know what sight you speak"
"Is it that our minds are too weak?"
She tried to find the words to say
"I'm not the same queen as yesterday,
My appearance has changed,
And I look severely deranged"
The creatures leaned in for more
As her eyes fell upon the shore
"I've grown old and too ugly to be queen
I shall not be loved as I am not serene"
They looked to their left, and looked to their right
Questioning this untrue sight
"Why, darling queen of the sea
Please do not fret, please do not flee,
For it isn't your appearance we love
But your thoughts your mind thinks of
We love your grace, your style, and your heart
We'd never wish to depart,
Oh sweet queen of the sea
We hoped you would agree
Appearances don't make someone who they are
But personality will take you far
And if people start to criticize you
Tell them sweetly, ‘At least I’m true’
And if they have but not a clue
Just keep right on being you.”
