Hideous Car Wreck Rhymes With Love

by Emma Carnage   Jul 31, 2005

You met Jane four years ago tonight
At just another random frat party
In her newspaper gown
Trying to make up for her looks
By being easy with the men
So you decided to have a little fun

She let you take her to your room
And do all those things you wouldn’t admit you wanted
Jane loved when you would touch and feel her
But she never noticed
That you wouldn’t look when you did
And you pretended it was someone else

Love rhymes with pity now
Love rhymes with shame now
Love rhymes with sympathy now

Jane would lay out with you
And when the sunlight hit her naked torso
She felt like an abandoned house
One that looked worse in the light
When you could see all the faults

She could never change the way she looked
That could never get better
Just like used cars and whipped dogs
So you went out and got a better looking brand
One with dyed blond hair
And a disposable tan

The week after you left her
Jane met another man at a stupid frat party
He undressed her with his eyes
Then talked her out of her skirt
And she imagined it was you

You left the party that night
Walking down the street to your apartment
Now the tire tracks zigzag your body
Glass in your hair and skin
Can’t remember your name

Love rhymes with pity now
Love rhymes with shame now
Love rhymes with sympathy now

Jane walks up to you
Sleeping in the hospital bed
Her newspaper gown on fire
Just like always
She’ll never be your better looking brand
