Collecting (?)

Collecting the old pieces of my former self,
Maybe it's time to put my life on the shelf,
To just follow death at last,
Leaving everyone I know in the past.

Maybe it's selfish to feel this way,
But I don't feel needed so why should I stay?
With melancholy thoughts plaguing my mind,
If I dig any deeper, what will I find?

People assume that I feel just fine,
But my thoughts always walk along this line,
Battling the inner pain that I feel,
But it feels like I’ve begun to kneel.

I doubt I can hold on any longer,
What should I do to become a little stronger?
As soon as I smile memories come around,
Safely and slowly pulling me down.
