Extreme Unction

by Michael D Nalley   Aug 2, 2005

Lord I pray, if my time is short, and I am near death
My body so week, that I am close to my last breath
That I receive the sacrament of Extreme Unction
And if it is Your will, heal my bodily function

But if it is time for me to inter into my eternal birth
I pray to You, merciful Lord, for all that I am worth
Let a priest anoint my senses, beginning with my eyes
They have become too attached to this earth, and all of its lies

Through this holy anointing, and Your most tender mercy too
May You, my Lord, forgive whatever I have done amiss through
My sight; hearing; smell; taste, speech; touch and through walking
Forgive me O Lord, I should have listened while I was talking

Eyes have not seen, ears have not heard,
The beauty, gracious Lord, You have ready for me
And those that love Your living word,
Bless our senses, and prepare us for eternity
