Penance

by Michael D Nalley   Aug 2, 2005

O merciful Lord, where do I begin
To thank You O Lord for forgiving sin
For giving grace to the contrite
To seek only to do what is right

He says the words,’ I absolve thee,’
I know You have forgiven me
You washed it, and set my soul free
To be what it was meant to be

And for giving me the grace to amend
The sin in my life, and not to descend
From the sanctifying grace that You send
To help me in life’s journey to the end

For I am weak, but You are very strong
The road is rough, and the journey is long
Through this sacrament You remove my fears
I am healed with my own sorrowful tears.

Sorry that I have offended Thee, Who art most worthy of all of my love
Thank you lord for this holy sacrament, and sending gracious mercy from above
