The Holy Eucharist

by Michael D Nalley   Aug 2, 2005

Give us this day our daily Bread, the Bread that is Jesus, we pray
That nourishes our life, and makes us the Bread of life for today
O Lord, what words can a man write, what words can the unworthy say
To express the gratitude, for this nourishment, to feed us on our way

Born by Baptism, matured by confirmation, and fed by the Bread
Transubstantiated by the most loving words that were ever said
He says this is My Body, and this is My Blood, and the bread, and the wine,
No longer exist, they are consecrated through the priest and made divine

These words were given to us, by the word made flesh, Who is the Son
Who loved us with the love of the Father, to Whom, He was made one
This sacrament brings man to God, and God to man, in a most holy union
And by the grace of God we can be made worthy of this Holy Communion

Jesus paid our debt at a price we could not afford
Taste and see the goodness of the gracious sweet Lord
