Goodbye

by Sam   Aug 3, 2005

I came that day to say goodbye,
But you weren't there.
In your Bed lay a stranger
No smile on their lips,
Nor strength in their limbs,
Just lying there under the sheet
Looking tired, looking old.

Slowly the stranger opened her eyes,
Once twinkled and bright,
Now dull and empty,
Just two dark tunnels
Of lost youth,
Of lost life,
Of nothing.

She turned her head to face me.
Thin lips struggled into a tight,
Thin smile
But bearing no more
I turned away.
Never to turn back.

It was too late
Your soul had left.
Carrying with it
Your years of fighting.
No goodbyes,
You had gone…
Forever
