I Would Be a Fool

by samuel   Aug 5, 2005

If I did not trust
I would be a fool:
Sometimes to trust is
The only alternative -
When you eat only after
Having hoped for food;
When you sleep
Only after having tired out;
When you dress up
As the only safe keep from nakedness;
When you hold her
In your arms as a relief
From lonely pain.
If I did not trust
I would be a fool;
I would be a fool
Even if I trusted.
