Dear Mom

by Prisci Cabezas   Aug 6, 2005

Dear mom,
It’s not your fault I feel this way
It’s not your fault I hurt
It’s not your fault I want to leave
It’s not your fault we’re like this

I know you tried your best
To give us a better life
Don’t think I don’t appreciate all you’ve done
All the hard work you’ve done
The hardships and suffering you’ve dealt with

I understand what you’ve been through
What you’ve had to deal with
I know more than you think I do
Abuse, neglect,
Death and life
The world is far from simple
But you’re proof that we can make it

Though I’ve been through a lot
Things you don’t even know
I’ve realized life is hard
But you give me hope
In this harsh, cruel world
I have a chance
To make it through
To get somewhere and move forward

So thank you mom
For all you’ve done
This world would’ve crushed me
If it hadn’t been for you

I’ll take your advice
And work hard now
Do my best
And plan for my goals
So that when the time comes
For me to move on
I’ll go farther
Push harder
Be better off

I’ll do it for me
But it’ll be because of you
That I’ll make it in this world
In this big, terrifying world
