I cut the "boy" in the word "boyfriend"

He is now my friend,
He was in a relationship with me,
For a year in a half but could never be.
A friend or a lover?
That I could never see.

I was just thirteen,
I was shy and I wasn't heard, only seen.
On the other hand he was a clown,
He could always turn a frown,
Up-side down.

I talked to him cuz he was fun to talk to,
Smiling whenever I could,
Didn't know what else I should.
He was a clown no girls didn't like,
That was something I secretly liked.

Mostly joking around and laughter,
Led us to like, and the next,
We decided to go to school dances,
Presents and hugs on occasion,
I summer we'd write and call,
So our "relationship" won't fall.

This is our second summer,
And his love for me is getting dimmer.
I asked him if he was my friend,
And of couse he said yes,
Said "I like you." I said I do too.

What I really wanted to hear was,
"You're more than my friend,"
But I didn't, so I'm real confused,
I'm so scared inside,
I want this feeling to fade away
But when I talk to him I just melt,
I wish he could feel what I felt.

I guess it wasn't love,
It was just "good friendship,"
Not a relationship,
I wanted to make a move,
I wanted for it to improve,
But I didn't want our friendship to fall apart,
So I decided to cut the word boy in "boyfriend" fall,
So we could all be happy and just be "friends."
