Society Made Ignorant

by EpithetPoet   Aug 8, 2005

My seeping scars have now mended
The tears subside long enough to speak
But frustration with the world's ignorance
Has made the mending seem bleak

My cares no longer revolve around me
They no longer concern my bleeding heart
My attention has now been drawn elsewhere
To where friendship and respect part

While pompous politicians fiercely argue
Of where the people's tax is spent
More money is spent on flamboyant elections
While our people live in tents

Every day my ears are bombarded relentlessly
With news of vicious terrorist attacks
Though after this blood is stretched too thin
They cover what Britney bought at Saks

Why our society focuses on stars
Is enigmatic to me beyond belief
Why we put so much stock in the opinions
Of people who give only money as relief

Just because they have money
And the attention of pre teens everywhere
They think they know best about world issues
Or they've been forced to speak, and don't really care

It seems as if the people who speak
Are the ones who should never breathe
And the people whose deeds speak for them
Are the people we need to believe

Yet sadly, our society doesn't work that way
Our minds follow what others thought
And while the most worthwhile person lays quiet
The rest are babbling "that's hot"

*Ideas and frustrations just came out in this, so bare with me if it's a bit erratic*
