War Poetry Part 2-After

by beautiful strangness   Aug 13, 2005

I’m afraid to open my eyes

For a sight of a hundred lives gone
in an instance

It astounds me
How we thought it would be a game,
So wrong we were
To give our lives for a meaningless cause

It’s hard to sleep, to think, to be

We have our dreams from back home
The places where our minds roam

The cold bites at our bone…

We want to leave
Forever sinking
Like some plagued disease
