Alive at Five

by Exquisite_Emily   Aug 13, 2005

When I was five,
I felt so alive,
I could be me,
I could play and shout with glee.

Embarrassment was when you wet the bed,
And you would never think that you’d rather be dead,
Becoming an adult closed a curtain,
A protective wall to be certain.

I’ve been blinded and lost,
My freedom has been covered in a shielding frost,
Embarrassment results in shame,
And being different if just lame.

I wish I could be five again,
Back in my plastic play pen,
For, when I was five,
I felt so alive.
