I lay my head to rest
In my bed I slowly close my heavy eyes
They feel to sore
To puffy
To red
To wet to close
I try to close them again
You run you fingers over my cheek
You whisper
Sleep my dear, just close your eyes
I turn to face you
Your beautiful smile catches my eye
I stare for a moment
Maybe my eyes will close
You continuously run your fingers over my head
Down my cheek
Across my lips
Your lips gently touch my forehead
As you kiss me goodnight
If only you weren’t leaving
I would sleep
My eyes wouldn’t be puffy, red and sore
If I drift off to sleep I know
I know when I awaken
You will be gone
I will awaken and your warm body will be gone
