Shhh....She's Sleeping

Shhh
She's Sleeping
Mouth partially open; a well of unspoken words
Her lips, the gentle curve; a rose in a field of snow
Long, pale leg trails off the bed; an unfinished sentence
The sheets are wrapped like a cocoon around her legs; she is a butterfly
A gentle snore escapes her lips; stories of dreamland
A constellation of freckles; the stars of second chances
White gold fans out behind her; the treasure of a pirate lost at sea
Eyes, though closed, hold whispers of eternity
The innocence of a child, the fury of an adult
Fingers splayed across her stomach like rays from the sun
She mumbles in her sleep; words of yesterday
She cradles her teddy bear; like a woman hugging her first born child
She turns and her back is exposed; the delicate curve of a young crescent moon
She is the image of beauty

She wakes when she feels my stare
Pads over to me, on delicate feet, pale and bare
What are you writing? her always inquisitive mind asks
Tales of a goddess I want to say.
But instead I reply, Nothing.

And close my book
