Insomnia (3 am)

by backporchpoet   Aug 21, 2005

It’s 3 am and I’m drifting out of sleep
moonlit squares trace up your face
I can tell you’re dreaming deep
and now I envy your state of grace

quiet face leaves thoughts secluded
and though you’re here I’m lonely
fallen silent with sleep eluded
while darkness presses in on me

your attention I try to win
our fingers lace and entwine
you smile a quirky grin
dwelling on your dreams divine

god I wish I was with you now
stop all the world now to be there
but I didn’t get directions on how
you got to this unknown where

never want to bring the night
when ‘we’ becomes ‘you’ and ‘me’
the end of our apart isn’t in sight
wait for day not dreams make us ‘we’

3:30 the world gets so faded
my mind is losing it’s waking fight
my thoughts have left me jaded
one last kiss and I whisper ‘night’

Yeah, right...people you want to be with never come...maybe we should wait til we give it up...

I really enjoyed this. I like the whole idea that you can't be with that person because they are dreaming and they are lost in their dreamworld, while you are here in reality wishing you were in their dreams. Nicely said.

    Take Care,
