Broken Promises

by Mikie Taylor   Aug 21, 2005

If you could only take some time, to look through my eyes for a day,
You would see that I'm not blind, and you could realize the words I say,
For the past three years, my last three fears have come alive,
That I would shed these tears, you would rearrange then change,
And that our love would finally die,

And I made this promise, deep in my conscience, back when we first met,
There would be no one above you,
And that I would love you and give you the utmost respect,
Even though we'd barely agree on the things each other would do,
I was never cheating or thinking of beating on you,
I'm not saying who I am merges with perfect and I didn't always treat you the best,
But I hold back these urges with all of my courage,
And I'm not sure how much I have left,
But that was back when we dated, before we actually made it,
And you could see our future in range,
But the promise you stated, before our spawn was created,
Is that you would never change,
But look at us now, after all that has faded; he is the only thing that remains,

But what we determine lies on him, and it must weigh a ton,
This is far from a sermon, but what a hell of a burden,
To put on our two year old son,
Why couldn't you speak to me clearly, and believe the things I say,
I never tried to lie to you merely, that’s not my style really,
And I didn't try to push you away,
I'm not sure if you were mad at my wealth, or you're fighting yourself,
Or were you just trying to grieve, I'd like to see you check on your health,
And I wish your personality never had to leave.
