The Doorway

by eternal rest   Aug 22, 2005

I can tell you’re leaving
I hear your footsteps,
Leading to the door.

The talks we used to have.
All the memories we share.
I can feel them slowly dying
As we grow further apart.

I thought we would be friends,
Friends for eternity.

Every word you say,
With every breath you take.
Screams of our ever failing friendship.

I can feel that you’re leaving
I see your hand,
Reaching for the door.

You’ve saved me so many times.
Held me up
When I thought I couldn’t sink any lower.
You were there to stick up for me
Even when you knew I was wrong.

I can see that you’re leaving
I feel the door open
Letting out the draft of our beloved past.

Don’t leave me here
Alone in this world.

Don’t look back
Only to say good-bye.

I can tell that you’re gone
Through crying eyes I see
The door slammed shut.

You left me alone
Not even a good-bye.
