The Stones of an Untamed Paradise (Redone)

by Aidyn   Aug 22, 2005

Prologue

He spied Her one day
Sitting by a stream,
The water burbling and sluicing
Over stones, hewn smooth by the current

The stones themselves
Were unremarkable,
But touched by the freedom
Of the current, of the sun, and the warmth of Her skin,

They became entities
Of dancing light and untamed beauty.
And so it was that He found Her
Wreathed in nature's ethereal touch.

He approached Her, and he sat,
And She did not stir from her throne
And with slow resignation, they acquiesced conversation,
Sinking further into their glittering world.

The visit became a tradition.
With dawn's first light came He,
And He sat beside His She,
And a fondness was born, made from the earth and hewn from the current of the river.

And He professed His love,
And He gave Her His Protection;
A bow, that reminisced his soul
And arrows, each made with a piece of his heart.

And She gave Him her Trust,
And with it, a simple phial
Of glass made from the river stones
Filled with stream water, a pristine taste of Their first kiss.

----------------------------------------

And so it was that the Stranger came
A countenance dark as night
With confident steps, he came to the field
Toward the stream in sight

He saw the current, he saw the stones
And then he did see Her
His eyes looked hungrily at his prey
As from Her seat She stirred

Her eyes met the Strangers’, cold and harsh
She cried out as she guessed his plan
Her thoughts were deft, and before he moved
The Bow was in her hands.

Her Lover heard Her call nearby
And ran through forest to aid
His hand roved to the phial he carried
And with every breath it stayed.

She nocked an arrow as the Stranger stepped
And She let loose her hand
Her arrow passed and fell astray
To the woods of surrounding land.

A cry came from the surrounding trees,
Muffled, but echoing true
A sound of pain, of fear, which came
With the piercing of a heart, run through

She panicked and fled, but quick as she ran
The Stranger was only faster
He pulled at her hair, and tore at her dress
To uncover what he was after.

Another shape loomed above the Stranger
And its arm arced in a swing
A blade appeared in the Assailant’s chest
No sound, as the sword did sing

The Stranger suddenly stopped and thrashed
And fell upon the ground
As he fell, he spluttered death
Then made one final sound.

She looked up into the eyes of her rescuer
And gave a shuddering start.
She saw it was He, but She cried out loud
At the arrow, piercing His heart

An ironic end, She saw it was
Her destiny to forsake Her
His fate was sealed, for from Her hand
The arrow had met its maker

Her Lover fell, and said “Farewell.
I’ll love you evermore.”
He had only stayed alive so long
From love deep in his core

She lay next to Her fallen lover, Her hand
Meeting His on the Phial as She cried.
She sobbed a lament at a love so lost
And by and by, She died

----------------------------------------

Epilogue

From His wound flowed blood, deep red,
That pulsed with love even as his heart did not
And it trickled viscously to the rocks
That had symbolized the freedom of life

The blood mixed with the curling waves of the water
And made it’s way through the tiny eddies and currents
The uncolored water flowed eagerly
To get a taste from the crimson rocks of the tainted meeting place.

The rocks themselves were unremarkable
But touched with the blood saturated with a lover’s passion
They became eternal gemstones,
To remain impervious to the cleansing of the water.

A love so fair, so pure, so innocent
Could never last in the mortal world
For that which is born from the earth must inevitably return
And so it did, on the stones of an untamed paradise.

This is indeed resubmitted. If you read the original, you'll remember how terrible it was......I like to think that this version is a LOT better. I would still appreciate any VOTE OR COMMENT you can give me, because I need to know how to improve it even further. Thanks very much for reading!
