It was late and cold on that stormy night,
I really wanted to hold you tight,
You went to a party,
you seemed real hearty.
You started to drink,
not beginning to think,
you didn't think about what you were doing,
You were happy because everyone was whoo-hooing.
You were going through a rough time,
Your parents didn't have a dime,
You had nothing to lose,
but you had to chose.
Your dad yelled at you,
it all seemed like hell to you,
your mom tried to work,
but her bad memories began to lurk.
You stayed at the party for a long time,
Not knowing your whole life was on the line,
You drank one,
then you knew you weren't done.
You knew you had to get home that night,
I wanted you to be in sight ,
You got in your car,
not knowing that it would leave a scar.
You started driving home and it was real far,
then came that other car,
You swerved,
then you curved.
Crash! like a bird you were hit,
The whole street was lit,
The rain kept pouring,
your parents were snoring.
I was home feeling all alone,
then there was the ring of the phone,
and I sang, thinking it was you,
but I had no clue.
The cop told me what happened,
you were gone,
then came dawn,
I went out to the lawn.
I had to get away,
I was wishing for a new day,
I went to the hospital,
I felt so sorrowful.
Then the doctor came in,
the light seemed real dim ,
he told me you were dead,
I was sitting, staring...spinning was my head.
I walked up to you and sat on your bed,
couldn't believe you were dead,
I knew you weren't coming back,
I had everyone but it's you I lack.
I sat and cried,
thinking; if only I tried,
I should of stopped you,
should of locked you up...should have stopped you.
I'm still crying,
wondering if it was worth you dying,
Why did you take that drink?
Why didn't you think?
So I guess this is good-bye,
If you were here you'd tell me not to cry,
I hope you’re in heaven smiling down,
I'm sorry the whole world just put you down...sometimes that gives me a frown.
