That friend should realize that the habit cant just be stopped completely, all at once. It takes time.. just like the frequency of the cuts probably increased in time, and the deepness of the cuts did too, they will have to gradually decrease. I have poor coping skills, but it took around 4-5 trips to a mental hospital to make me realize if i ever wanted to live life outside of there I had to stop. It takes counseling.. and good support systems. Sometimes people can be cruel and unfeeling. The things that helped me most through that tough time when i endured it was talking about my feelings, writing, and drawing. |

Don't make promises u can't keep, cuz something as strong as cutting, u can't just stop instantly...trust me. But if you want to try to stop cutting, but still want to feel pain without causing damage...try using an ice cube. hold the ice cube on your arm until it melts, and it will bring you the same sting as cutting does. |
I'd suggest carrying rubberbands. and then when you need to cut. just snap them on yourself. helps for me |
I can relate. i dont no how 2 deal w/ the pain without cutting either, so i cant give u any advice. sorry |
