Beyond My Control

by Libby   Aug 27, 2005

You are my favorite friend
In the whole wide world,
Straight toward me
Full of humor you hurled.
A scholarship granted
You a place at this school
I kept you in line
Made you play by the rules
We had two years
Of unstoppable good fun
The worries we had
Were near to none.

Already planning
Our thirteenth year goals
As Fifth form came round
We were ready to roll.
Energetic and confident
Fun, filled to burst
Not knowing the year
Was to be our worst

You began to take drugs
And skip every class
Your mental state got worse
As you downed every glass
Before we had realized
What the hell was happening
You had a plane ticket home
And had finished unpacking.

You aren't coming back
That's what I keep hearing
I tried to help you
But you were way past caring
I'd give anything to have you
Back here with us
But the scholarship's gone
You've broken their trust

We never really
Got to say our goodbyes
After each phonecall
It's hard not to cry
We'll never again
All be together
It's farewell for now
Best friends, forever.
