Katrina's wrath

by Lu   Aug 31, 2005

As I sit to write this poem today
I do not even know where to begin
I write with a heart that is heavy
And tears that endlessly fall down my face
My heart and prayers go out to the people of U.S.A

I watch in horror this week, causing my blood to run cold
sadness evading my very soul

Tears of sadness I can not hold back
Since it has not been long since the Twin Towers attack

Your once beautiful states of Mississippi,Louisiana and New Orleans
did not deserve this destruction by any means

As the hurricane struck the states of the U.S.A
I hold my hands together and for you all I pray

High winds and flooding rain
delivers your states so much pain

Stripped away of power, water and basic needs
the far off whisper of people's pleads

So much destruction , chaos and death
people taking their one last breath

Brown churning water erupts down the street
Destroying houses , motels even walls of concrete

High winds shredding any thing in it's path
delivering the pain of Katrina's wrath

People on rooftops or clinging to a tree
thousands of people their homes they must flee

Looters stealing what people worked so hard for
even stealing medications from the corner drug store

Babies and children crying and bleeding
for God's helping hand we are all pleading

People missing or dead , lost in the water
searching for a mother a father a son or a daughter

The once beautiful skies darkened by black smoke
people hutled in shelters battered and heartbroke

Erupting gas lines and downed hydro wires
houses flooded under 20 feet of water or burned by the fires

The dead still unfound as survivors plead for rescue
the millions of dollars this disaster will accrue

Thanks for the aid of the Air force , Navy and Army for their helicopters and night search gear
also the help of the red cross and salvation army in a time so severe

The doctors and nurses who dedicated their time
and the police and firemen who ran when they heard the bell chime

So many people helping to pull back together their state
not knowing the future or even the death rate

All across the world we send out our condolences and love
and pray for God to bless you all from above...

Author's note : Although I live in Canada my heart goes out to all those affected by hurricane Katrina.I am praying for the quick recovery of your beautiful states and may God give the people of the U.S.A the power to find peace in this great time of sorrow.

Great job! It's wonderful that someone is expressing their feelings about Hurricane Katrina through poetry. I'm sure that you're not the only one, but you're the first one I've seen. I'm impressed that you mentioned God in your poem, too... Keep it up!!!!

Look at it this way-atleast this was a natrual disaster and not caused by some higher powered men sending ppl to destroy others lives...i dont feel bad for them, hell in new orleans i think it cured pleanty of drunks, and those ppl that were poor are all gonna get money and now they get free food and water....the news only shows the bad sh it and takes away from all the ppl and soldiers down there that are helping...nice poem tho

I also wrote a poem about Katrina.
I was moved emotionally by your poem. I felt the flow and the heart that went into it.
We also had a taste of Katrina in South Florida but we were just the snack before the meal. Thanks for your poem, good job!
