Mother To Child

by JJ   Aug 31, 2005

I've climbed mountains
only to tumble back down
Dusting myself off,
I climbed on up again

I've crossed bridges in life
that threatened to fall
Defying my deepest fears
I conquered it all

I've knocked on doors
that have yet to open
my knuckles worn,
I'm still knocking

I've battled through life
fighting for what I believe
standing up for my self,
I tell you, it wasn't easy

I've been slapped in the face
stomped and beaten down
challenged, tortured in pain
yet I never gave in

I've made mistakes in my past
something we all do
looking back, I've learned from them
and I've moved on

I remember my mother said
her only hope and prayer,
that I wouldn't have to go through
nearly as much as what she had to

My child, this is my prayer for you
