When dreaming dreams
You become entranced
By childhood fairytales
That all end the same
The girl finds her prince charming
And all evil is gone
All is good
And they live "happily ever after"
Life however
Is far from that
Many times
You become hurt and scarred
Like a beautiful rose
With thorns so sharp
They make you bleed without remorse
You feel angry and hurt
Yet you saw it coming
For it happened before
Your heart became uplifted
With a warm, tender feeling inside
Then the beauty of it all withered
The thorns leaving you torn
Not knowing what to do
You cry
Leaving streaks down your cheeks
When you believe you can't go on
A new "prince" comes into view
You get his attention
And he makes you laugh
He makes you feel better
And you begin to dream
Not of reality
But of some fairytale
That only tells your heart lies
Lie of how it will end
Of how happy you will be
It's beauty you see
Masked by the truth
You grasp at the rose
Unknowing of the truth
You hold something so wonderful
In your fragile hand
But then you start to scream
For you see the painful truth
This rose is no different than the last
And now you're bleeding from within
Scarred and forlorn
You give up on your dreams
And despise childhood tales
Those romances so untrue
You now face reality
Fairytales lie
Leaving you to fend for yourself
Until you find that rose
Full of beauty and love
Whose thorns are all worn
And will not cause you pain.
