I dream of home.

by Steven Beesley   Sep 1, 2005

Parenthesis: Bedford, England once my home, memories now come flooding back to me. Just north of London in Bedford shire county, it is just approximately 1 hour's drive on the M1 motorway. It is conveniently located between Cambridge and Oxford.

Home of De Montfort University situated on Lansdowne Road. You may recall the famous writer John Bunyan who wrote "Pilgrims Progress", he is a famous Bedfordian.

I dream of home:

Oh my heart yearns
My old Bedford, how far you seem from me
Of days past, my youthful days
Another world now it seems

The spawning ground of my literacy
I miss the quaint tree lined avenues
My home on Lansdowne Road
Long afternoons strolling in silence and serious contemplation

The warm atmosphere of the High Street
My favorite off-license on the corner
So many a Friday night spent pub crawling with the boys
Late Sunday brunch and writing in the park

Long strolls along the embankment of the gentle river Ouse
Watching the swans gliding along so gracefully
The smell of spring along De Parys Avenue
Fresh blossoms everywhere

Of course I remember the weekend trips to Northampton
Where I first met my sweetheart
So many days, both content to just stare into each others eyes
Afternoons of strawberries and cream

Oh how my heart yearns
Once more to see my old friends again
To wander your historic streets
Be at home in Bedford, at last
