Sunburn

by Stumbling Shaman   Sep 2, 2005

Crimson lips kiss the sky,
This seems to be our last goodbye.

The desert sun sets,
Leaving me alone, shivering in the dark.
Winding my way around a million charred corpses,
I stumble forth in moonlit silence,
A mockery of the light that once filled my dreams.

Envy creeps in for those who no longer feel the cold,
Crumbling away, never again to rise,
At least they've forgotten who they burned to hold.
I can no longer bear this pain inside-
Like frostbitten fingers clawing at my heart.

It's clear to me now that before this night is through,
I'll be sleeping too.
