I'll rewrite it till it's perfect
Even if it has to be reworded
I'm that kind of word-smith
Practice makes perfect
I'm a mad scientist scribbling away like a lunatic
Every bead of sweat I dispense is worth it
Jot it down verbatim
Those who know me, know this
You won't find my fingerprints
on something that's worthless
Despite the rejection slips
You see, jealousy runs rampant
But that kinda sh*t happens
Sticking to your guns when you got the talent
And take one any challenge
Refuse to turn back with your tail tucked into your pants
But I wouldn't put anything past everyone who asks:
"Why do you write about the hard edge and violence?"
I bask in their silence, when I justify it
And I just reply with:
"People love to be scared and lost in the darkness."
I'm my own worst critic, I'll be the first to admit it,
Every line or lyric,
a stanza or paragraph, polished manuscript or first draft
I test my limits in fiction
I can't imagine being passionate about another discipline,
And be driven to accomplish,
Something my doubters have been praying against my dreams and wishes,
Curse me behind my back and when I turn around it's hugs and kisses, but the Lord will dismiss this,
So they'd better smarten up and beg for his forgiveness
I'm gonna remain a creative soldier,
Who embraces his supporters,
And carrying a massive load on my shoulders,
What can I say,
I'm a slave to this trade,
Start at the beginning and return full circle again,
The best way I learn is from others mistakes,
'cause I've gotta stare in the mirror every morning and study my face.
If it were that easy: that ideas grew on trees,
Pluck 'em and cash 'em like overdue royalties.
These words are my medicine,
Runs through my veins like creative adrenaline,
Fertilize an imagination like a fresh breath of oxygen--
I inhale, to spin these tales,
Down to their final details,
That's why I put my pride and discipline on the table,
As long as my heart's still in it then I'm capable,
The bottom line is I'm gonna leave your mind tangled in knots,
Write circles around you like you got writer's block,
I don't want a penny for your thoughts,
I've got a better idea: I'm changing the plot,
Now is the time opportunity knocks,
spill the ink let's see what you got!
