*THE SOUTH CRIES TONIGHT...*

By Hina Ali H

I sit here in a warm home,

With the smell of roses in my hair

Something each human is wishin for tonight

Down in the south, old Louisiana is crying for me

This pure sense of guilt comes over my eyes

When the sights of the victims sit there and die

Damnit God why? Why this pain now?

The hell have they done, they're cryin for me tonight

Yeah you, all of you, you all need a home

But no ones helping, you're on your own

At least that's what our people say, the ones who used to praise

"Our America, the beautiful" well, It's destroyed

The torture you've bestowed, God will help you one day

The hope that you don't have, was taken away

Strangers of the night, those who preyed

On your women, your children; they will be slayed

Hats off to you, American Angels

Where were you when the south surrendered?

To an unknown disaster comin our way

Katrina tore us apart, we've got no one left to blame..

Come soon Jesus, and on us let your light shine

Show us that its okay, and that with pain comes healing time..

Cold bitter nights arose in the summer, lets hope winter does us well

Southern hospitality is a parody;

My people live's,

..a living..hell.

Wow that was a very emotional peom, a lot of anger stored through those words. I can picture this poem written on a piece of paper in a sharp jagid hand, quick and furious at the injustices it has been forced to see. I powerful poem.
