A young couple
just married
new house
new plans
they loved each other like no one ever could
they tried for a baby a couple years later
2 miscarriages
brought depression upon the house
they fight
he slams the door
jumps in his car
looking for the next bar
but as he drove by an army truck
he thought to himself
this would be great
i can think about this all
without someone else
the next day he filled out papers
he joined the army you see
after that he went home
as he walked in
his wife was crying
oh not again
after the third baby was gone he could not take anymore
he begged the army to take him to war
so he could escape this fear
few months past
as the day came
the wife answered the phone
2 minuets later she slammed to the ground
he walked in to see what was wrong
she told him how she knew

next day he was to depart and serve the army so
they left things on ok terms
as his taxi picked him up
he left with no words
her tears fall not in drops but in pairs
2 months went by
no word if he was ok
3 months went by
and the phone rang
she picked it up in hope
it was him saying I'm coming back
one more thing he had to do
and he would be back
for those three months she thought she had the flu
went to the doctors
came back with good news
she waited for a call from him as he promised the day before
but nothing
she heard nothing for two days
until a man walk up the step
she ran outside to hug him
but stopped
it wasn't him
she instantly knew
she screamed out loud for everyone to hear
crying and saying why me
when the man reached out his hand
she stood back up
and held his stuff tightly
as the soldier said these words
your husband is dead
but mam he said something that was odd
i wondered if you knew what he was talking about

he called to the lord
and said he saw the light
he said also that there were his children there
playing
he said to give this purple heart to you
and also said i hope you and the baby will be fine
he woman was to upset to answer as she walked inside the house
wondering to herself
