2012. (Mayan Long Count Calendar)

by Steven Beesley   Sep 6, 2005

Parenthesis: The Mayan culture has long gone. These ancient people were well ahead of their time in science and mathematics. They made a calendar called the "Long Count Calendar" which is one of the most accurate still in existence. The calendar was first made in 3114 BC and counts up to the 21st December, 2012 (Winter's Solstice). It is felt that this is the day of reckoning - doomsday!

2012 (Mayan Long Count Calendar):

So long ago, you were so wise
Mayan culture still shrouded in mystery
Science and mathematics, ahead of your time
We are perplexed by your long count calendar

Started in 3114BC, it seems to count up to our day of reckoning?
To be precise, December 21st of 2012AD.
A Winter's Solstice, a cold one to remember!
Will this be our end or the start of a new era?

The beginning of the golden age?
Or the coming of a comet and the destruction of us all?
You saw the sunspot cycles
Made your eschatological predictions

What be our fate?
With the convergence of all such information
The time counts down
The day will surely come

But you left us so long ago
No further wisdom to guide us
We await our ultimate destiny
Or will it be our ultimate tragedy?
