One Day at a Time

by Peter Williams   Sep 11, 2005

Wake up and fell asleep,
Take my hand as I start to weep.
A shot through the heart and one in the arm,
A cigarette hits my lips,
Consider it a lucky charm.
The smoke blows into the night sky,
These are the days I wonder why.
The days where I question the unquestionable,
The days where the sane become unstable.
Before the game,
Before the chase,
I heard your name somewhere in this place.
Take off my tie,
Take off my charm,
I'm just another guy that means you no harm.
Follow the rules,
Play it safe,
All of us are fools as the planes above begin to strafe.
No more answers...
How could I lie?
As the advancers begin to die.
The fallen fall and the shadows fade,
I start to crawl,
But no one comes to my aid.
That's how it was,
So long ago,
Without our flaws,
We can not grow.
Everything happens for a reason,
That's what I told myself,
It was treason when you stole my heart from that shelf.
My heart isn't broken,
My soul didn't shatter,
A love wasn't spoken,
I guess it doesn't matter.
I'm still alone,
But I never was,
Into the unknown and without a cause.
I'm just one man,
Caught up in rhyme,
Trying to live my life as happy as I can,
One day at a time.
