A regular tuesday

by backporchpoet   Sep 11, 2005

A regular Tuesday normal like them all
ended during math with one single call:
"Students and teachers, sorry to disrupt,
but with this news I must interrupt.
There have been terrorist attacks, the media states
on the Pentagon and Trade Towers, the disaster is great.
I ask for a moment of silence, please
to commemorate these horrible tragedies."
Looked at the teacher for an explanation but found
My math teacher visibly upset, head bowed.
The entire day I felt so lost
waiting for an explanation, simple and unglossed,
Newly eleven, wondering where were these places?
and why did they write grief across these faces?
I races home and the videos made me cry.
Destructive smoke against the innocent blue sky.
People emerging from piles in tattered rags,
Our rebelling nation still proudly raising our flag.
Knowing we won't be knocked down
Receiving encouragement and hope from all around

For all the terrorist victims now we pray
as we remember what happened four years ago today
