I don't remember the time or date
just this moment trapped in time
when a little girl showed so much strength
and left her childhood behind
that early mourning she awoke
everything, it seemed the same
simply unaware of what has happened
someone just lost life's little game
she traipsed into the next room
to see her fathers piercing eyes
but now so lost and puffy
the way hers looks when she cries
she was far too young to understand
she hopped up on his lap
he faked a sorry, crooked smile
and he gave her head a tap
but it was then she noticed something
well.. she did but he did not
a solitary tear streamed down his cheek
and landed on her, with a drop
she listed hard, through choking sobs
someone we loved, was lost
she tried so hard to understand
and many tears it cost
she wanted so much for him to stop
for each word, he trembled more
she stopped, ran, grabbed something from her room
and stood standing by the door
he wiped a tear and walked to her
she took a large, deep breath
she knew on thing, her fathers pain
not the difference between life and death
and as he had done so many times
she wiped his tears and help out a stuffed bear
she whispered "squeeze him, close your eyes,
and Grandpa will be there.."
